Urge Australia to End Live Export

More than 28,000 cattle and sheep drowned recently when a former Australian-owned
"death ship" carrying farmed animals sank off the Lebanese coast on its way to Syria. While newspapers around the world covered the tragedy, we all know that incidents like these are just part of the everyday frightening realities of the live-export trade.

Australia exports millions of animals to Middle Eastern and Southeast Asian countries every year. Many die slowly during the long and rough journeys, usually from starvation, exposure to extreme temperatures, and painful and debilitating diseases and injuries.

PETA undercover investigations in Middle Eastern countries like Egypt and Kuwait have documented that those animals who survive the journey undergo suffering and cruelty once they have reached their destination. Animals are barbarically unloaded, beaten with metal bars, kicked violently by workers, and dragged off by their ears and legs, where many are left to die from sickness or dehydration in barren feedlots. Animals who can be sold are often bound up and thrown into the boots of cars—the local buyers will take them home and cut their throats with a dull blade. Millions of local people throughout the regions believe that Australians approve of their treatment of animals because of our willingness to supply them.

You can help! Please contact Australian officials and urge them to show their commitment to animal welfare by keeping our animals in Australia!
