Tell Sri Lanka That Elephants Belong in the Wild, Not in Zoos!
Sri Lanka recently announced plans to import elephants from Thailand to be sentenced to life in confinement in zoos. Taken from their families and homeland, elephants in zoos suffer a life of chronic physical ailments, social deprivation, emotional starvation, and premature death. They often spend their days pacing around the outside of barren concrete enclosures, which are barely even a fraction of the size of their natural habitat. This obsessive, repetitive behavior is known as "zoochosis" and suggests that they've been driven insane from intense confinement. Despite this and the fact that wild endangered elephant populations are dwindling, the government of Sri Lanka is proposing to capture more.
You Can Save Elephants!
Please use the form below to urge the government of Sri Lanka to pull the plug on elephant imports. Ask it instead to improve the lives of the elephants already in the country or, better yet, close the elephant exhibits altogether.
