Stop Hunters in New South Wales!
National parks are meant to be protected sanctuaries for animals to live freely—but the Shooters Party of Australia wants to put an end to this. A proposed amendment to the Game and Feral Animal Control Act will be considered when Parliament resumes in September.
If this bill is passed, it would open national parks to the recreational shooting of 26 native species—including four species of kangaroo—and the re-introduction of duck hunting. Amateur hunting also comes with its own set of problems, including an increase in the accidental shooting of endangered animals and an increase in animals wounded by shooting, resulting in slow and painful deaths. Amateur hunting also does not help to control wildlife, as the Shooter Party argues.
The wild animals in the national parks of New South Wales need your help in preserving their protected habitats and halting the development of private game parks for animals to be hunted for sport. Please contact Nathan Rees, premier of New South Wales, and ask him to oppose this amendment.
