Stop the Construction of Primate Testing Facilities in Malaysia!
Negotiations are allegedly taking place between several foreign research companies and Malaysian government officials about the construction of primate research centers in the country. You can help stop this! Please take just a few minutes to use the form below to send an e-mail to Malaysian authorities urging them to put an end to the negotiations, which only serve to encourage further use of primates in research and tarnish the country's progressive reputation.
As public opposition to animal testing grows and western countries implement restrictions on the use of animals in tests, many companies are outsourcing these tests to facilities in Asia, where animal protection legislation is generally weaker.
Alternatives to animal tests are efficient and reliable, and the use of primates in research is being widely questioned internationally. Unlike crude, archaic animal tests, non-animal methods usually take less time to complete, cost only a fraction of what the animal experiments that they replace cost, and are not plagued with species differences that make extrapolation difficult or impossible.
Malaysia recently made the progressive decision not to allow the export of the country's native population of macaques for research purposes. Please tell authorities to keep speaking up for primates and halt plans to build primate research centers in the country.
